Brother Elroy Johnson was born in Breckinridge County, Kentucky May 26, 1924. He is the youngest son born to Mr. & Mrs. J. E. Johnson. He was educated in Breckinridge County public schools, which included the first six grades in rural grade school, known as Bethel. The other grades were in Irvington Elementary and High School, Irvington, Kentucky. He is retired from U.S. Civil Service at Fort Knox, with thirty-three years of service. Brother Johnson is married to the former Lillian Allen. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1943 to September 1944 and was honorably discharged. Brother Johnson is a member of the Bewlyville United Methodist Church, Bewlyville, Kentucky, having served his church as adult Sunday School teacher, member of Nominating Committee and Finance Committee. He also serves on the Board of Stewards. Brother Johnson began his Masonic career when he was initiated an Entered Apprentice February 1947; passed to a Fellow Craft in March 1947 and raised to Master Mason April 1947. These degrees were conferred in Irvington Lodge No. 868, F.&A.M., Irvington, Kentucky. He served his lodge in several offices and became Master 1953-54. He was elected Secretary in December 1955 and has served in this capacity until the present time. He served as District Deputy Grand Master District No. 11 in 1958-59. Brother Johnson received the Scottish Rite Degrees in the Valley of Louisville in 1972; the York Rite Degrees in May 1983 at Owensboro, Kentucky and the Ceremonies of the A.A.O.N.M.S. in June 1983, Kosair Temple, Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to the above, Brother Elroy is a member of Irvington Chapter No. 544, Order of the Eastern Star, is Past Patron of Irvington Chapter, Past Deputy Grand Patron, District No. 11, O.E.S. and is currently serving as Treasurer of Irvington Chapter. Brother Johnson is a member of the Past Masters' Society of Central Kentucky and an Honorary member of West Kentucky Past Masters' Society. Brother Elroy Johnson was elected to the office of Grand Junior Warden of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Kentucky in October 1983, elevated to Grand Senior Warden in October 1984 and Deputy Grand Master in October 1985. He was elected and installed as the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky in October 1986. As his Masonic years draw to a close, Brother Elroy Johnson only hopes that some good will be seen in the years to come from having served the Grand Craft of Kentucky.
